| Typical testing sessions |
Testing. The club has established a group of its members to hold testing sessions prior to our meetings. Anyone desiring to become a Volunteer Examiner will be welcome to join our group. See Gordon Groves/K3GG for help in becoming certified. Anyone applying for a license or upgrade to your present license, will need to bring the original and a photocopy of their license and CSCEs, if any, a photo ID (drivers license, etc.), a ball point pen, a pencil, and $15.00. Exact change would be helpful. To make an appointment, please call Robert Walter/KI4BFS at 954-946-0524, or send e-mail to him at walter1127@att.net, in advance. You may also call Gordon Groves/K3GG at 954-783-8693 or e-mail him at gordon.groves@gmail.com. The testing session is followed by our regular meeting for the month. When you make plans for testing, you might like to join us at the meeting. It is open to all with an interest in amateur radio. Whether you have a license or not, you are always welcome. We are a growing club with increasing membership. We have begun a project to install something new to amateur radio called D-Star. We are installing a D-Star repeater system, for your use, with 144MHz, 440MHz, and 1.2 GHz repeaters that are tied together with the D-Star controller. Using a D-Star radio, you will be able to contact others on D-Star, in digital format, anywhere in the world: even using a hand held radio. There is a lot to learn about the system, therefore, we plan to hold informal classes at each meeting to explain how it works and answer any quiestions you may have. This is the first D-Star repeater system in South Florida. Help us make it grow and enjoy the fellowship of our club members and guests. For more info on D-Star, click here. Remember, the meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month except in December at the Imperial Point Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL.. We open the meeting at 7:30 pm and there are free refreshments at the close. Looking forward to seeing you there. |
